So the world is 6000 years old, is it?

I am mystified that in todays world, with science, education and technology, Christians can be so blinded to the facts that they resort to fundamentalist ideals of taking the Bible as a book full of literal facts. Every word scrutinised to be hand written by God, and that it is infallible in any way. It's almost like these poor deluded people in our society are brainwashed to believe such nonsense as accurate historical and physical facts when all their really doing is believing in an antiquated logic of an ancient societies attempts at understanding the world around them. What's your thoughts?
