Catholics, why do you need a Pope to tell you the infallible word of God when?

O.K., an answer within the last question I asked said they needed the infallible Pope to interpret the infallible word of God so you don't end up with a mess of different denominations like the Protestants have. Sure why not go ahead and get a punch in while your at it. Anyway, If you have a group of people set up to pick the next Pope or you could say who picked out the last Pope why aren;t they able to read the infallible word of God in an infallible way? Either they are infallible and can pick an infallible Pope or they are fallible and try to guess and could very well pick a fallible Pope. Or is there many in the Catholic church who are infallible as the Pope is and can read the infallible word of God just as well as any infallible Pope? What say you?
